There’s a lot of hip hop going on this year. This was not planned, although it has been engineered, but still. I’m surprised. And excited.

One notable thing has been the video for Nobody’s Perfect, which I made recently. It’s a rap video and song that I made with considerable help from talented folks.

If you haven’t seen it, you’re in for a treat. Watch it, share it, Google +1 it, and retweet it a bunch of times, and just enjoy the rebirth of Ryman Illar (AKA Rhymin’ Illa’) Also, know there will, in all likelihood, be some more rap videos this year.

If I could go back in time and tell this to the twenty year old me, I think he’d be pretty excited. And then I’d tell him the other rap stuff going on, and he’d be even more amazed.

I’ve got two shows this week with Milly Can Rap, an improv duo that combines my loves of improv and rap music. It’s two man high-energy improv with a soupçon of beats and rhymes. We’ll be playing in Brussels on Wednesday at New Europe Studios and Friday at Mezrab here in Amsterdam.

So that’s pretty great, also because it means that Trent Pancy, all-around great human being, friend and founder of the legendary Finland International Improv Festival, will be here.

If you’re in Brussels or Amsterdam on either one of those dates, I highly recommend checking us out. It’s a really fun show that I’m proud of.

And then there’s more – yes even more!

On 9 April I’ll be hosting a rap battle in Brussels in the European Parliament. Yes, I know what you’re thinking: “that idea makes a lot of sense, I have no more questions”.

But even still, I can fill in some details. This will be an event featuring Members of European Parliament (MEPs) and real freestyle battle rapping MCs, who will be debating the issues rap battle styleon behalf of the MEPs.

As in each MC will be paired with a European political party, and they will debate youth engagement issues from the perspective of that party.

It’s a big deal thing, as the parliamentarians will be there, Facebook and MTV are involved and … yeah, I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen, but it promises to be cool. And if you’re in Brussels on 9 April, you should definitely be at this thing. Register for the event and come on.
