While I was on holiday in Italy last month I spent a little time putting together a rap, because that’s the kind of miniproject a guy like me can find to occupy his thoughts while he’s idle.
It centered on a couplet I’d written a few months earlier:
You gotta work those oars if you want to row boats/
And never let up, from acorns grow oaks
There was something I found really compelling about that idea, about hard work and big results from humble beginnings. Anyway, I started building on it and got to the point where I realized: as much as I liked the idea, it wasn’t the whole story.yes, it’s true I value hard work and all that, but I’m also really into relaxing and hobbies and family time and stuff.
Yes, I value hard work and all that, but I’m also really into relaxing and hobbies and family time and stuff. There’s more to life than hustle. So the verse became something else.
Then I polished it, rehearsed the crap out of it, and recorded it in our spare room. Just for fun.
